Kattenkabinet

Amsterdam

North Holland

The Kattenkabinet is a private art museum in Amsterdam dedicated to the representation of cats in art. Located at Herengracht 497, in the famous Gouden Bocht, the museum presents a diverse collection of paintings, sculptures, photographs and other works, highlighting the role of the cat in artistic culture. Renowned artists such as Picasso, Rembrandt, Toulouse-Lautrec and Foujita are represented, making this a must-see venue for cat and art lovers.

History of the Museum

The museum is housed in a house built in 1667, once owned by Amsterdam patricians. After several owners, antique dealer Bob Meijer restored the building in the 1980s and founded the museum in 1990 as a tribute to his cat, John Pierpont Morgan. The museum was also the setting for the 2004 film Ocean’s Twelve. Today, cats roam freely, adding a lively touch to the experience.
