The Anne Frank House is a museum located in Amsterdam, on the banks of the Prinsengracht, one of the city's main canals. It is dedicated to the memory of Anne Frank, a young Jewish writer who experienced Nazi persecution during World War II.
Anne Frank, her family, and four other people hid in the rear section of 263 Prinsengracht, the headquarters of the Opekta company, owned by Otto Frank, her father. The entrance to their refuge, known as ‘t Achterhuis (“The Secret Annex”), was concealed behind a revolving bookcase.
The museum’s mission is to preserve this hiding place and tell the story of Anne Frank and her time. It also plays a broader role in raising public awareness of the dangers of persecution and discrimination in all its forms.
