A modern zoo on the outskirts of Eindhoven
Opened in 2004 on a former landfill site, Eindhoven Zoo (formerly Dierenrijk) offers an immersive experience in the animal world. The park is located in Mierlo, with an entrance in Nuenen, in the Gulbergen region. It is managed by Libéma, a company also responsible for Safaripark Beekse Bergen. Since its opening, the zoo has undergone many major changes and developments.
A constantly evolving history
When it opened, the park was called Dierenrijk Europa and featured exclusively European animals, divided into seven themed areas (forest, Alps, swamps, Mediterranean, etc.). From 2007 onwards, non-European species were introduced, and the name was shortened to Dierenrijk. In 2024, the park adopted its current name, Eindhoven Zoo, with new facilities including an area dedicated to Siberian tigers. In 2025, it became the first institution in the Netherlands to welcome golden takins.
A wide variety of animals
Today, the park is home to iconic mammals such as Asian elephants, Indian rhinos, brown bears, wolves, and red pandas. Visitors can also observe a wide variety of birds (flamingos, vultures, scarlet ibises, etc.), reptiles such as iguanas and turtles, fish, and invertebrates.
A structure committed to conservation
Eindhoven Zoo is a member of EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquaria) and NVD (Nederlandse Vereniging van Dierentuinen). It actively participates in breeding programs, notably by coordinating the European studbook (ESB) for Darwin’s rhea.
