The Eurobridges of Spijkenisse are an original public art project: seven bridges built between 2011 and 2013, inspired by the fictional bridges illustrated on the back of euro banknotes. Installed in a modern neighbourhood, they offer a scenic and visually striking walk over the canals.

An inventive idea for a neighbourhood
Designer Robin Stam proposed to the Spijkenisse city council the idea of bringing the imaginary bridges from euro banknotes to life. The project was approved by the authorities, with the European Central Bank recognising it as a uniquely creative initiative — and that is how these printed motifs became real structures.
Bridges in varied styles
- Seven bridges corresponding to the €5 to €500 banknotes, built in concrete (colourful on the canal-facing side) or steel for the modern designs.
- The €5 bridge has two façades: one reproduces the €5 note motif, the other the €20 design.
- Gradual construction: the €10 and €50 bridges in 2011, the €200 bridge in 2012, and finally the €100 and €500 bridges in 2013.
A surprising architectural walk
The bridges create a colourful route across the water, perfect for a walk or bike ride. Each bridge uses the colour palette of its banknote, offering a playful blend of numismatics and architecture.

The Eurobridges are located in the Het Land district of Spijkenisse (Rotterdam area). They are freely accessible on foot or by bike and offer great opportunities for figurative urban photography.
