Groene Kathedraal

Groene Kathedraal

Almere , Flevoland

The Green Cathedral (De Groene Kathedraal) is a fascinating artistic creation located near Almere, in the Netherlands. Designed by artist Marinus Boezem, this plantation of Italian poplars mimics the size and shape of the famous Notre-Dame Cathedral of Reims. Measuring 150 meters long and 75 meters wide, the ensemble consists of 178 trees planted on a mound, creating an impressive natural structure. In addition to the trees, stones have been placed on the ground to reflect the architectural details of the cathedral, and a clearing has been added to perfectly reproduce its footprint. This land art project, installed in 1987, remains a unique tribute to the beauty and grandeur of traditional architecture fused with nature.
