Between Nuenen and Eindhoven, the Van Gogh Cycle Path transforms a simple bike trail into a living work of art. Inspired by The Starry Night, it lights up at night thanks to thousands of phosphorescent stones embedded in the ground.

Description
The Van Gogh Cycle Path, inaugurated in 2014, stretches for about 600 meters in North Brabant, the very area where Vincent van Gogh found inspiration for some of his paintings. This unique section combines art, technology, and nature to create a poetic nighttime experience.
A luminous tribute to Van Gogh
The path is directly inspired by the famous painting The Starry Night. Thousands of small luminescent stones embedded in the surface absorb light during the day and glow at night, forming spirals and celestial patterns. The whole scene is enhanced by subtle lighting that reinforces the dreamlike atmosphere.
A work by Daan Roosegaarde
Designed by Dutch artist Daan Roosegaarde, the project is part of what he calls “techno-poetry”: using technological innovation to create places filled with emotion and sensory experience.
Route and surroundings
The path connects Nuenen to Eindhoven, two towns closely linked to Van Gogh’s life and work. By day, it’s a pleasant bike ride through fields and typical villages. By night, the trail transforms into a starry corridor, inviting visitors to contemplation.
Tips to enjoy the experience
- Visit at dusk to see the luminous patterns at their best.
